Seeking the Truth on Picture DayFirst of all, just wanted to say a big
MAHALO
to all those who helped out running the booth on Saturday. And a even bigger
ALOHA to
all those who stopped by to voice your support, sign up on the membership as
well as your kind donations. These funds will go directly toward defraying the
continuing cost of running this operation. With unrelenting stamina and a
prayer, we shall prevail.
It has recently come to my attention that a great falsehood is taking place. Many people mentioned over the weekend that they had heard, from various sources, that Wardlow Field was already sold, and that the permits and building plans have already been approved by the city. Imagine what I said to myself. As a Real Estate Broker, you have to pardon my ignorance, but I've never seen a 14 acre property change hands without at least a few days of escrow, let alone the lots being subdivided and approved by the State Department of Real Estate. The truth of the matter is this: WARDLOW FIELD HAS NOT BEEN SOLD. Not yet, anyway. While the district has taken upon itself to declare it as "surplus", that's all they've actually managed to do to date. Per the Naylor Act, local state and county governments having jurisdiction must be given first dibs on the property. This has not taken place. An official valuation has not even been made public. As far as I'm concerned, this property is still at square ZERO. Not to make too fine a point of it, the school property on Oak St has not completely closed escrow either. As far as we have been able to determine. It's unfortunate that so much disinformation is floating around. Fortunately for all of us, we can exercise the right to free speech so that you all can read the truth here. Next steps: April 4th, 2005. While the council has recommended that the public comment on their support of the fields, it will certainly be worthwhile that many of you appear at the city council meeting to bolster the argument we are making. A few of us at Save Our Field will speak, we encourage all to voice your opinoin even the kids!!! Bring Poster, signs, most important your presence. "Oh", ask for yourself "Did the City receive or approve any plans at the wardlow site or any of the other sites?" Please promote amongst your neighbors and friends. The membership form is attached in the Links section on the right. Please print out a copy and give to everyone you know. Donations are tax deductible and gratefully accepted.
